From Basic Research to Innovation

We are committed to fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation, with a strong focus on bringing our cutting-edge research to  applications. To date, our research has led to the formation of several start-ups and collaborations with industry partners. We provide resources and support to help our researchers explore commercial opportunities and bring their technologies to market, with the potential to contribute to societal progress and technological development.

As a founding partner and co-initiator of Cyber Valley, a leading research cluster in artificial intelligence and robotics, we have created a vibrant ecosystem that brings together academia, industry, and government to drive innovation and economic growth.

Max Planck Innovation and MAX!mize Start-up Incubation Program

Max Planck Innovation is responsible for technology transfer from the research institutes of the Max Planck Society. The main focus is the transfer of basic research results into products, which contribute to economic and social progress.

MAX!mize is the official start-up incubation program for the Max Planck Society by Max Planck Innovation. The program supports scientists to become entrepreneurs. They receive individual assistance with their start-up idea and learn to apply new skills in finding and designing viable business models.

Over the years, multiple groups from MPI-IS have participated in MAX!imize start-up incubation program and have secured funding to develop their research ideas into business models.
