Julian starts his Ph.D. at the USCD!
We are happy to announce that our lab member Julian Skirzynski will start a Ph.D. project at the University of California San Diego. At the UCSD, Julian will further pursue his interests in interpretable machine learning and reinforcement learning while working with some of the most renowned scientists in the field.
During his time at the REG, Julian worked on algorithms that can automatically discover interpretable planning strategies and teach those strategies using cognitive tutors. Additionally, Julian helped develop a method to analyze human planning strategies and automatically describe them in an interpretable way. Julian's work resulted in the following articles:
- Skirzynski J., Becker, F., Lieder, F. (2021). Automatic discovery of interpretable planning strategies. Machine Learning, (1-43).
- Becker, F., Skirzynski, J., van Opheusden, B., Lieder, F. (2021). Encouraging far-sightedness with automatically generated descriptions of optimal planning strategies: Potentials and Limitations. Manuscript in preparation.
- Skirzynski, J., Jain, Y. R., Lieder, F. (2021). Framework for automatic discovery and description of human planning strategies. Manuscript in preparation.
We wish Julian the best of luck with his Ph.D. and look forward to future collaborations on connecting the improvement of human cognitive skills with interpretable machine learning!
