REG visits Montréal

At the RLDM, three posters will be presented by members of our group. Falk will introduce his work on “A cognitive tutor for helping people overcome present bias” and Yash’s work on “Measuring how people learn how to plan”. Our collaborator Priyam will present joint work on “Remediating cognitive decline with cognitive tutors”. In addition to that, Falk will give an invited talk in the RLDM workshop “Variability in Learning and Decision-Making: Failure or Feature?” about “Resource-Rational Decision-Making”.

At the MathPsych/ICCM, Maria will present her work on “A model-based explanation of performance related changes in abstract stimulus-response learning” that emerged from her PhD in collaboration with the Cognitive Modeling Group at the University of Groningen.

At the CogSci, we will present three posters and Maria will introduce her work on “An ACT-R approach to investigating mechanisms of performance-related changes in an interrupted learning task" in a talk. Falk will present Lin’s poster on “How should we incentivize learning? An optimal feedback mechanism for educational games and online courses”. Florian will showcase his work “What’s in the Adaptive Toolbox and How Do People Choose From It? Rational Models of Strategy Selection in Risky Choice” with a poster and Yash will introduce a poster on “Measuring how people learn how to plan”. Furthermore, Falk will give three invited talks in workshops and symposia. In the workshop “Heuristics, hacks, and habits: Boundedly optimal approaches to learning, reasoning, and decision making” he will talk about “Learning how to decide”. Falk will also give a talk on “A resource-rational analysis of human planning” in the workshop “Everyday activities” and introduce “Resource-Rationality” in the “Extending Rationality” symposium together with his PhD supervisor Tom Griffiths. Our intern alumni Gabriela will be present at the CogSci as a volunteer.

Outside of these conferences, Maria will seize the opportunity to introduce herself and her research to the Shared Rationality Lab at the McGill University with her talk “Education meets Psychology and AI: Interdisciplinary perspectives on designing intelligent educational technologies”. Upon leaving Montréal, Falk will make a detour to Toronto to give a talk about “Rationality Enhancement: Towards theories and tools for making people more effective” at the University of Toronto.
