Savas Tasoglu receives Humboldt Research Fellowship for experienced researchers
A new guest scientist joined the Physical Intelligence Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart with the support of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for twelve months to continue his microfluidics and biomaterials research in Germany.
Dr. Savas Tasoglu’s lab at Koc University focuses on the design and fabrication of novel biomedical platforms utilizing the principles of microfluidics, biomaterials, immunochemistry, and magnetics. Dr. Savas Tasoglu is currently an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and KUTTAM, Koc University and Adjunct Associate Professor of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Bogazici University. Dr. Tasoglu obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from METU (2006) and Koc University (2008), respectively. Dr. Tasoglu received his Ph.D. in 2011 from UC Berkeley, with a research focus on transport phenomena and pharmacokinetics of anti-HIV microbicide drug delivery. Dr. Tasoglu held a postdoctoral appointment at Harvard Medical School and Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology between 2011 and 2014. On June th, 2021, he joined the Physical Intelligence Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS) in Stuttgart with the support of a 12-month (distributed over 3 years) Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers.
"I feel privileged to join Professor Metin Sitti’s prestigious group with a support from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. I have had the privilege to work with Prof. Sitti earlier during my postdoctoral studies at Harvard, on untethered micro-robotic coding of three-dimensional material composition. This fellowship will generously allow me to rejuvenate my collaboration with him." says Savas. Sitti heads the Physical Intelligence Department, which he founded in 2014 at the Stuttgart site of the MPI-IS.
Each year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation grants approximately 500 fellowships to postdoctoral and experienced researchers with above-average qualifications from across the globe. Experienced researchers are already well advanced in their academic career and the Humboldt Research Fellowship for experienced researchers allows the awardee to carry out long-term research of 6 – 18 months in Germany. Applicants choose their own topic of research and their academic host.
