Sahar Abdelnabi, Maksym Andriushchenko, and Zhijing Jin were selected to serve on the EU AI Act Scientific Panel. The 60 experts of the Scientific Panel will advise the EU AI Office and national authorities on the implementation of the AI Act and the assessment of the impacts and risks of General-Purpose AI models.
The core responsibilities of the Scientific Panel include alerting the AI Office to systemic risks, advising on GPAI classification and evaluation methodologies and supporting market surveillance activities.
The selected experts contribute with their expertise across a broad range of areas, including GPAI capability evaluation, risk assessment methodologies, technical risk mitigations, misuse/deployment risks, cyber offence risks, provider cybersecurity, emergent systemic risks, and compute measurement.
Besides ensuring top-tier expertise, the selection also considered geographic balance (at most 3 nationals from each country) and gender balance, giving preference to the underrepresented gender when candidates were equally qualified.
