Giulia Ballardini obtained her M.Sc. (cum laude) in Bioengineering (Neuroengineering and bio-ICT) from the University of Genoa in 2017 with a thesis titled ‘Design, development, and testing of a low-cost mechatronic device to quantify somatosensory deficits’. After the master's degree, she worked as a research technician at Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI, USA) on the design of effective supplementary haptic feedback to enhance motor control in stroke survivors.
Giulia received her Ph.D. in Bioengineering and Robotics from the University of Genoa. Her dissertation 'Assessment and enhancement of proprioception' focused on the development of technological solutions and methods to improve the evaluation and enhancement of proprioception in people with and without sensorimotor impairments.
She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Haptic Intelligence Department. Her research interests are in the development of haptic technologies to provide effective and reliable biofeedback.
